BJP elects LK Advani to lead opposition
New Delhi, Jun 1: While the UPA is ready to convene the first session, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that vowed to play the role of 'constructive opposition' has on Sunday, May 31 elected LK Advani as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, and also authorised him to nominate the other parliamentary party office bearers.
The leader of the single largest opposition party LK Advani will be holding consultations with his senior colleagues before nominating the party leaders, including the party"s deputy leader in the Lok Sabha, the Opposition leader in the Rajya Sabha and his deputy. The contenders for the posts are Ms Sushma Swaraj as the deputy leader in Lok Sabha while its between Mr M Venkaiah Naidu and Mr Arun Jaitley the Opposition leader"s post.
The meeting also touched upon the topic of BJP's failure in the elections. LK Advani said the party"s performance in states such as Uttarakhand, Delhi and Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh was 'very disappointing'. However he urged his party members to not sulk over the loss and to bounce back actively.
