Brazil: Air France jet with 228 onboard missing

Paris, Jun 1: Reports suggest that an Air France plane flying from Rio de Janerio in Brazil to Paris has gone missing over the Atlantic ocean on Monday, Jun 1.

With 216 passengers and 12 crew members on board, the flight was due to arrive in Paris at 09:10 hrs GMT (11:10 hrs local time). However the flight disappeared from radar screens while flying over the Atlantic off the Brazilian coast.

Paris airports authority spokeswoman said that the plane was expected in Paris at 11:10 am. Air traffic control lost contact with the flight at 06:00 hrs GMT, shortly after it took off from Rio de Janeiro bound for Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris.

Search operation is under way near the Brazilian island of Fernando de Noronha.
