Massive fire leaves 100 small shops gutted in Kanpur

Kanpur, May 31 (ANI): At least 100 small shops were gutted in massive fire causing damage worth millions of rupees in Kanpur.

Fire gripped the market area having small-small shops situated at the parade ground of the city. Fire gutted the entire market due to strong wind.

Fire officials and policemen informed that more than a dozen fire brigade vehicles were able to bring the fire under control.

"At least 15 fire brigades and 13 fire service vehicles have been called. Exact loss cannot not be estimated at present. The fire is under control and there are no casualties," said D. Singh, a police inspector.

Residents were anguished as they said that neither administration nor the State Government has ever taken measures to stop such accidents as occur in the same area almost every year.

"As far as I know, there were about 150 shops here and all are gutted in fire. It seems that it's a pre-planned thing since it happens every year. Neither administration nor government ever takes any effort to stop this accident. Every year, fire guts the same area. The Government should think, would these poor people be able to rise again. These people get their material on credit.

I believe loss worth millions of rupees because every shop has material worth lakhs of rupees," said S. Aalam, a resident

The reason for the fire is not yet known.

Market at parade ground is one of the oldest and most famous markets of Kanpur where clothes, shoes other day-today things are available. (ANI)
