Prabhakaran's parents under 'protective custody'

Colombo, May 28: A media report on Thursday, May 28 said that the LTTE chief V Prabhakaran's parents are in the 'protective custody' of the Sri Lankan government.

"Thiruvenkatam Velupillai, 76-years old and his wife Parvati, 72-years old surrendered to the army several days ago", the Island newspaper quoted a government official as saying.

According to reports, Prabhakaran's parents took shelter with other civilians in the no-fire zone along the coast in Mullaitivu district before the army launched its final assault against the LTTE. The report said, "Velupillai and Parvathi were among the early batch of Sri Lankan Tamils to go to India and settled in Tiruchi."

It also said that Prabhakaran's parents return to the LTTE zone in the northern Sri Lankan in 2003, a year after the Tigers and Colombo signed a Norway-brokered ceasefire agreement.
