US swine flu death toll rises to 12

Chicago, May 26: Illinois health officials say a person in the Chicago area has died of swine flu. It is the 12th confirmed death from the illness in the United States.

Dr Damon Arnold, director, Illinois Department of Public Health said that the victim had other medical condition on Monday, May 25. No other information was released about the victim.

The Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports more than 6,700 cases in the US as of Monday, May 25, which resulted that most of them are mildly affected. The CDC has confirmed 10 deaths but New York health officials have one more death over the weekend.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) counted more than 12,500 swine flu world wide cases as of Monday, May 25, with which more than half of them in the US.
