15th Lok Sabha to convene from June 1

New Delhi, May 23: India's 15th Lok Sabha will hold its first session on June 1 marking the beginning of its functions. The first session will be convened from June 1 to June 9.

The decision on this matter was taken on Saturday, May 23 in the first meeting of the cabinet after being sworn-in on Friday, May 22. The meeting took place in Manmohan Singh"s residence and decided that the newly elected members of the Lok Sabha would be sworn in June 1 and 2.

The speaker of the house will be elected on June 3. And on June 4 Pratibha Patil will address the joint session of parliament following which there will be a debate on the president"s address and motion of thanks June 5, 8 and 9.

P Chidambaram who said that there will be break before the budget session, however added that the government was hopeful of passing Budget by July 31.
