Maruti weighing options to continue M800, Omni

Kolkata, May 22: Maruti Suzuki India may not after all phase out its Maruti 800 and its van Omni March 2010 when Euro IV emission norms would be in force in major cities.

There were reports earlier that stated that the company will be phasing out these two models when the new norms were out. But, currently the motor company is weighing its options of continuing with its first model Maruti 800 as also van model Omni.

"Technically, we can upgrade the M 800 and Van models to meet latest emission norms, but it would be a commercial decision whether the models would be continued or not," Maruti commercial business head S N Burman said on Friday, May 22.

Burman added that the final decision, however, will be taken only after considering if the costs of converting the models to suit the new norms could be met by the company.

He dismissed reports claiming that Maruti decided to go this way due to Tata Nano.
