Colombo, May 19: A day after the Sri Lankan Government claimed that Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) leader V Prabhakaran has been shot dead, a pro-LTTE website on Tuesday, may 19 posted that Prabhakaran is 'alive and safe'.

"I wish to inform the Global Tamil community distressed witnessing the final events of the war that our beloved leader Velupillai Prabhakaran is alive and safe," LTTE's International Relations head S Pathmanathan was quoted as saying on Tamilnet.com.

Claiming that the government had fabricated news of his death in order 'to gloat' over its final military victory against the rebels, he said, "We categorically reject this."

He, however, did not disclose any information on the leader's whereabouts.

"The Tamil freedom struggle is a just cause and will not be quashed by the events of the last 24 hours. Truth and justice will always prevail," he said.

He further accused the Lankan government of committing 'crimes against humanity' citing that the top rebel leaders were shot dead after calling them for a negotiation.
