Montek non-committal on FM prospects

New Delhi, May 19: Calling media reports 'speculations' Manmohan Singh's favorite choice for Union Finance Minister, Montek Singh Ahulwalia remained non-committal on the issue.

"I am not making any comments on these sorts of press speculation," said Montek Singh who has resigned as the Planning Commission's Deputy Chairman.

However, expressing satisfaction over the election results he said, "I am delighted at the election results. It is a very strong and firm mandate. Everybody I have seen or talked to is absolutely delighted. I share that feeling."

Montek Singh who played a pivotal role in the economic policies of the last government has been seen as the potential Finance Minister ever since the election results threw a UPA government on the country.

The other leaders in the race for the post of FM are C Rangarajan, former Reserve Bank Governor and now member of the Rajya Sabha, and Kamal Nath, Commerce Minister.
