Will free civilians & eliminate LTTE in 48 hrs: SL

Colombo, May 15: A day after US and UN urged Sri Lanka to stop the war in order to cause any more civilian casualties, the Island nation has on Friday, May 15 said that Lankan troops will 'rescue' all the civilians trapped in the war zone within the next 48 hours.

Government information director Anusha Palpita said "The president assured that within the next 48 hours the thousands of Tamil civilians will be freed from the clutches of the Tamil Tigers."

Vowing to eliminate the Tamil rebels in 48 hours President Mahinda Rajapaksa said, 'all territory will be free from clutches of Tamil Tigers'. The Sri Lankan army has reportedly massed 20,000-25,000 troops for the final military offensive.
