Illinois reports 555 H1N1 flu cases, highest in US

Chicago, May 13: With 555 confirmed cases of Swine flu or H1N1 influenza, United States' Illinois has reached the highest number reported from the US states.

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) on Wednesday, May 13 reported 555 cases of the flu, including one probable. And 249 confirmed flu cases in the state comes only from the Chicago region.

With the number soaring from the week ago numbers of 225 confirmed flu cases, the state authorities have said that the IDPH labs are failing to perform tests to confirm the flu virus, thus reducing a backlog of suspected flu samples.

The number of confirmed H1N1 cases reached 3009 across the country. Three flu deaths have been reported from Texas and Washington.

Illinois' neighbour, Wisconsin has reported has reported 437 confirmed cases making it the second largest number of cases in the country.
