Ex-naval chief Admiral S M Nanda passes away
New Delhi, may 12: Former naval chief Admiral S M Nanda, a veteran of the 1971 Indo-Pak war, died on Monday, May 11 evening in the national capital.
He was admitted in Fortis hospital in Vasant Kunj of Delhi and breathed his last around 2300 hrs IST. The 93-yr-old Padma Vibhushan award winner is survived by his two sons and wife besides grandchildren.
Nanda was appointed the Chief of Naval Staff on March 1, 1970. He retired in 1973. He was awarded the Param Vishist Seva Medal (PVSM) and the Ati Vishist Seva Medal (AVSM) for his distinguished service ti Indian Navy. He played a crucial role in 1971 Indo-Pak war.
