SL troops confirm death of 2 senior LTTE leaders

Colombo, May 11: There have been reports confirming the deaths of senior Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) operatives Cheliyan, the second in command of the LTTE Sea Tiger wing, and LTTE's military spokesman Illanthirayan in the military offensive against the Tiger rebels.

As per the reports received from the Karayamullivakkal area, the Sri Lankan army has confirmed that two senior LTTE leaders were killed when the troops captured a LTTE"s earth bund built in the same area on Thursday, May 7.

According to the Sri Lanka Army Cheliyan who was in his thirties was involved in many attacks on the Sri Lanka Navy in the past and received injuries in a confrontation with the Navy in Mar '08. And the 43-year-old Ilanthirayan was a senior member of the LTTE who was appointed the head of LTTE's Batticaloa district political head, following Kaushalyan's assassination.
