President greets nation on Buddha Poornima
New Delhi, May 8 (ANI): President Pratibha Patil has greeted the nation on the occasion of Buddha Poornima, which will be celebrated tomorrow.
In her message, she said, "On the auspicious occasion of Buddha Poornima, I extend my greetings and good wishes to all the citizens of this country. The teachings of Gautam Buddha on compassion, non-violence and equality serve as a guide for humanity in its path towards spiritual emancipation and peace."
"May the celebrations inspire humanity to follow the path of enlightenment shown by Lord Buddha and strive to achieve universal peace and harmony," the President added.
Buddha Poornima falls on the first full moon night in the month of Vaishakha as per the Hindu calendar.
One of the most sacred festivals of the Buddhists, it is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Lord Buddha. (ANI)
