Thiruvananthapuram, May 8: VS Achuthanandan, the chief minister of Kerala was reportedly asked to step down by the CPM's state unit.

The demand came after the Kerala CM opposed a cabinet decision not to prosecute Pinarayi Vijayan, CPM state Secretary in the SNC Lavalin corruption case. The demand for disciplinary action was backed by all state ministers, and was only opposed by the central observer.

CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has not commented on the issue of CM's resignation.
