India's Inflation rises to 0.70 per cent
New Delhi, May 8: India's inflation rose to 0.70 per cent for the week ended Apr 25 above the previous week's annual rise of 0.57 pc as per the government data released on Friday, May 8.
The Wholesale Price Index (WPI) stood at 8.27 per cent during the corresponding week in 2008. This is the eight week in a row when inflation stood below the 1 pc mark. The WPI is watched more closely than the consumer price index (which is published monthly) because if covers more number of products and is released weekly.
The rise in inflation was due to increase in price essential food articles like cereals, pulses, vegetables, milk and sugar.
