Blind cast their votes in Krishnagar via braille
Krishnagar, May 8: Krishnagar Lok Sabha Constituency on Thursday, May 7 saw five visually impaired voters exercising their franchise with the help of the Braille system.
The blind men were trained in several sessions to operate the Braille system before they cast their vote said the election officials.
As per a TOI report, in the district administration list, there were 23 visually impaired voters, who can read via Braille. They were contacted through four blind schools Helen Keller Smrity Vidya Mandir, Nabadwip APC Blind School, Paschim Banga Andha Alok Samity in Kalyani and Karimpur Social Welfare Society in the district.
The report quoted a district social welfare officer Partha Pratim Dasgupta as saying that it was the first time the blind voters cast the vote on their own. Till now, they were assisted by another person inspite of knowing Braille.
