Pak: Senior cleric's son killed in military opns
Islamabad, May 7: In the military operations against the Taliban militants, the son of Sufi Muhammad, the cleric who negotiated the controversial peace deal between Pakistan authorities and Taliban, was killed.
Kifayatullah, Sufi Muhammad's was killed in the firing between the military and Taliban militants in the Dir district of North West Frontier Province (NWFP). Along with Kifayatullah another relative of the cleric's family was injured in the shelling.
Sufi Muhammad leads the banned Tehrik-e-Nifaz-e-Shariah Muhammadi (TNSM). This Islamic body has played an important role in fighting for enforcing Shariah or Islamic law in the northwestern Swat valley.
He had mediated the peace deal in the Swat Valley between the Taliban and the authorities which has 'dissolved' in the past few days due to the military offensive launched by the government.
Reports show that about 300 militants and over 20 security personnel have been killed in the fighting.
