Dozens killed in Afghan air strikes, says ICRC

Kabul, May 6 (ANI): The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on Wednesday claimed that dozens of people, including women and children, had been killed in US-led coalition air strikes in western Afghanistan.

The ICRC statement prompted Afghan President Hamid Karzai to immediately order an investigation. The ICRC report claimed that over 150 people had been killed in Tuesday's strikes in the western province of Farah.

Karzai, who is currently in Washington attending a trilateral meeting with Presidents Obama and Zardari, has reportedly ordered the interior ministry and other relevant authorities to probe the matter.

The US military has also announced an investigation. The ICRC has sent a team to investigate after locals contacted it for help.

Part of Farah province is under Taliban control, said Governor Rohul Amin, and therefore, it was difficult to determine how many were actually killed. (ANI)
