Buner: 60 militants killed, 10 soldiers kidnapped
Islamabad, May 2: In the military operations back by fighter jets and tanks against the Taliban, Pakistani forces have reportedly killed at least 60 Taliban militants in the Buner district. In an effort to counter the attacks the militants kidnapped 10 soldiers, Dir Levies personnel on Friday, May 1.
The militants are said to have been offering stiff resistance against the military operations. Apart from the kidnaps two Paramilitary Frontier Corps personnel were killed and eight others injured when a suicide bomber detonated a house filled with explosives in the region.
"The type of resistance the security forces have encountered during this operation and the weapons which are being used by the militants clearly negate the militants' earlier claims that they had left Buner," chief military spokesman Maj Gen Athar Abbas told a news briefing in Rawalpindi.
