Vayalar Ravi visits Karunanidhi's residence to enquire about his health

Chennai, Apr 29 (ANI): Union Minister of State for Overseas Indian Affairs M Vayalar Ravi on Wednesday visited Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi at his Gopalapuram residence to enquire about his health after the recent fast he kept for the Sri Lankan Tamil cause.

After meeting the DMK chief, Ravi told reporters that the Centre would keep asking the Sri Lankan Government to protect innocent Tamilians.

He assured that the Central Government is taking appropriate steps to ensure peace in Sri Lanka.

Karunanidhi kept a fast on April 27 to demand an immediate ceasefire in Sri Lanka. He called it off after six hours following an assurance from Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram that the UPA Government will convince the Sri Lankan Government to halt hostilities against the LTTE.

Karunanidhi's move to go on a fast led to protests by DMK supporters.

Karunanidhi clarified that the priority was not the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), but to save the lives of thousands of Sri Lankan Tamils. (ANI)
