Malaysia: Increase in levy scathes Indian traders

Kuala Lumpur, Apr 25: The increase in levy for foreign workers in Malaysia has adversely affected the Indian businessmen in Malaysia working in the restaurant, textile, provision and hairdressing industries.

Klang Indian Chamber of Commerce president T. Muthusamy said the levy increase, a decision taken by the Malaysian Government has forced many foreign workers to return home as their income had been reduced drastically.

The Tamil Nesan quoted him as saying that many traders in the Little India area in Klang were finding it hard to hire local workers.

Muthusamy said that having a grace period before the implementation of the levy increase might have helped the businessmen prepare themselves at least.
