Clinton visits Iraq to inquire on recent violence
Baghdad, Apr 25: US secretary of state Hillary Clinton has landed in the Iraqi Capital, Baghdad to look into the security situation due to the recent increase in reports of violence from the area.
Clinton who arrived in Baghdad on Saturday Morning, Apr 25 said that she will first be meeting US Iraq commander, General Ray Odierno to hear his assessment.
"I want his evaluation of what these kinds of rejectionist efforts mean and what can be done to prevent them by both the Iraqi government and the US forces," she said.
The incidents of suicide attacks and increase in violence also coincides with the planned withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraqi cities by the end of June, and preparations for Iraqi elections later this year.
Clinton's visit comes two weeks after President Barack Obama's visit who said that the next 18 months in Iraq would be 'critical'.
