Regular courts stop operating in Buner fearing Taliban attack
Peshawar, Apr.23 (ANI): With the Taliban gaining grip in the region, regular courts in the North West Frontier Province's Buner area have stopped their operations fearing retaliation by the extremists.
The Daily Times reports that people are avoiding filing petitions for addressing their grievances.
"Fearing Taliban, litigants are not coming to courts. How do judges work in a district where the government has lost its writ and the district police officer and the district coordination officer have also left," Qalandar Ali Khan, Registrar of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) said.
Khan said that despite the threat to the lawyers and judges, the Peshawar High Court (PHC) is trying hard and offering all help to the Provincial Government to run regular courts in the region.
"Despite Taliban threats to lawyers and judges, the PHC is cooperating with the NWFP government to operate regular courts," he said. (ANI)
