Kasav to be tried for 166 murders, war on india

Mumbai, Apr 17: The 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks trial is scheduled to begin on Friday, Apr 17 and will be handled by the special sessions court in Mumbai's Arthur Road Jail.

Now that the court has appointed Kasav's new lawyer, Abbas Kazmi on Thursday, Apr 16 trial finally begins. Ajmal Kasav, the lone terrorist captured in relation to the Mumbai terror attacks 2008 will face charges for murder of 166 people along with other charges like 'war on India'.

The court room being used for the trial, was used earlier for the trial of the 1993 bomb blasts is bomb proof and will see heightened security. The media personnel will be checked for Identity cards and are instructed to carry bar-coded cards that have been issued to media houses. The same applies for lawyers and court staff.

The trial that was supposed to happen on Wednesday, Apr 15 faced a set back when the court sacked Kasav's former lawyer Anjali Waghmare citing 'professional misconduct'. However the new lawyer appointed by the court Abbas Kazmi was introduced to the terror suspect on Thursday, Apr 16 and will be defending Kasav today.
