New Delhi, Apr 17: After a brutal incident of corporal punishment, a 11 year old girl has slipped into a coma and is fighting for her life in the Maharshi Valmiki Hospital. The student, Shannoo Khan from the MCD Primary school for girls was punished by a teacher for not reciting the English alphabets.

The incident reportedly happened on Wednesday, Apr 15. The teacher rammed the girl's head on the bench and made her stand out in the sun for two hours. The girl was unconscious when her younger sister studying at the same school found her and informed her mother. She was later taken to the hospital where she is currently in coma and undergoing treatment for 'ventilatory failure' in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

“The child was admitted in with severe seizure and her condition further deteriorated before she slipped into a coma. She was shifted to LNJP in critical condition," said Dr K K Deuri, medical superintendent of Maharshi Valmiki hospital.

While the school has denied the allegation and said that she suffered from seizures. However, the teacher and principal are on suspension. Municipal commissioner K S Mehra has asked the Director of Primary Education to conduct an inquiry and submit a report in three days.

This is the second incident of corporal punishment reported from the MCD school. In the first incident the principal was suspended for ignoring a case of corporal punishment that happened at the school.
