Boiler explosion kills five, injures two
Chennai, Apr 16 (ANI): Five persons were killed and two others injured when a boiler meant for melting scraps exploded in an industrial estate here on Thursday.
According to officials, the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) had installed a 50-feet high boiler to melt iron scrap.
Suddenly, a crane dropped some iron scraps into the container, the boiler exploded and the molten iron fell on the employees standing nearby.
All the burnt persons were taken to the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, where five of them died.
The two other injured workers were listed in critical condition.
The deceased were identified as Mahindra Tripathi (35), Veerandra Raj (35) and K. Yadav (25) from Orissa and Sankar Prasad (45) and Mithun (21) from Bihar. (ANI)
