N Korea boycotts denuclearization talk

Seoul, Apr 14: North Korea has said that it will boycott the six-party talks aimed at its denuclearization in protest of a United Nations (UN) Security Council statement issued on Monday, Apr 13 against North Korea's rocket launch that took place on Apr 5.

North Korea found the United Nation's statement offensive and that it impinged on the country's sovereignty. A statement by the Foreign Ministry said that they were forced to bolster their 'nuclear deterrent to cope with additional military threats by hostile forces'.

Further, North Korea said that it will restore and resume operating nuclear facilities that were to be disabled according to an international disarmament-for-aid deal negotiated under the six-party process.
