School kids take to streets against intoxication of polls
Amritsar, Apr 12 (ANI): Hundreds of school kids here took to streets against the doling out of drugs, liquor and other intoxicants by political leaders during the elections.
The rally was organised by an NGO, Amritsar Citizen's Forum.
Holding placards, kids raised their voice in order to create awareness against its ill effects. They urged voters to realise the value of their votes.
"We organised this rally in an attempt to rid our society of drugs and other intoxicants. Some political leaders distribute drugs and liquors for votes. We appeal people not to vote leaders who are involved in drug and liquor distribution. We appeal them to choose their right representative, " said Ram Lal, a student.
According to media reports, the demand for liquor rises several folds during elections, as politicians distribute it free to poor people for sake of votes.
"In order to seek votes, politicians are used to distribute drugs and other intoxicants like illicit liquor, Charas. Those poor people who cast their votes to such leader will not get anything in return. In many cases, people died of consuming illicit drugs," said Brij Bedi, a social worker who heads the NGO.
Recently, at least 15 people have died due to fake alcohol in New Delhi. (ANI)
