Kiwi dancers win chance to become Dreamgirls of Bollywood
Wellington, April 12 (ANI): Six Kiwi girls have got the opportunity to be a part of 'Dreamgirls of Bollywood', a theatrical dance spectacular.
Sharmista Chakraborty and five other girls from Auckland have joined the cast to perform alongside leading stars of India's Bollywood film industry in the musical.
"I'm really excited and looking forward to it. It's something I haven't done before but I love dancing, I love being on stage," The NZPA quoted Sharmista as saying.
The 26-year-old, whose family emigrated from Kolkata (formerly Calcutta), has been practising classical Indian dance for the last 20 years.
Sharmista has given performances around the world, including at London's Royal Albert Hall, New York, Kolkata and Toronto.
Although this is the first time she has participated in a musical, she is looking forward to perform alongside award-winning Indian dancer Aditi Bhagwat and Bollywood star Shiva Rindhani.
"It's quite an experience so I'm hoping to learn quite a few different dance moves and things from them," Sharmista said.
She is also looking forward to the 'colourful' costumes and isn't worried about sporting any of the more revealing ones.
"Its important to be confident. If you're not confident it can show. As long as you feel good about yourself and you feel good in what you're wearing and comfortable, then all you have to worry about is taking the stage on and once you get comfortable with the stage and audience then everything's a breeze," she said.
The musical will run at Auckland's SkyCity theatre from April 15-26. (ANI)
