New Delhi, Apr 4: Bharathiya Janata Party (BJP) President Rajnath Singh on Friday, Apr 3 announced that his party would not sit quiet on Varun Gandhi issue.

"I will be visiting Varun Gandhi in jail on Monday, Apr 6. The BJP will not sit quiet and watch the whole episode. We will take the issue to the people of the country," Rajnath Singh said after a meeting of the party's core group.

The meeting was attended by senior BJP leaders including Arun Jaitley, Jaswant Singh and Venkiah Naidu.

The meeting came after senior BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu visited Varun in the jail on Thursday, Apr 2 and alleged that Varun Gandhi had been harassed and tortured in the jail.

After his alleged hate speech came out in the media and a court disallowing him to extend his anticipatory bail in the case, Varun Gandhi courted arrest in Pilibhit and the Uttar Pradesh police booked him under the National Security Act (NSA).
