ISI influence on Pak worrisome: US

Washington, Apr 3: The growing hold of the Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) on the governement is becoming a cause of concern for the United States.

The US Undersecretary of Defence for Policy, Michele Flournoy alleged that it was the elements of ISI within the Pakistan Government that was the cause for the lack of cooperation with the American initiative 'War on Terror'.

"I think ISI is or parts of ISI are certainly a problem to be dealt with," said Flournoy, as quoted in The Dawn.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) chief General David Petraeus stated, "There have been examples of Pakistani intelligence officials passing on information to the militants," and emphasised on the need for Pak to stop perceiving India as a threat and refocus on the western border where the Taliban and al Qaeda activists operate.

It has also been declared that Washington is keeping a check on the cooperative activities between the ISI and Pakistan Army.
