China gives no hint on blocking action against Korea in UNSC
New York, Apr 2 (ANI): China's President Hu Jintao has given no indication that his country would block UN Security Council action if the United States files a resolution against North Korea, which has notified the international community that it will launch a rocket between April 4 and April 8.
Fox News.com quoted a U.S. official on Wednesday as saying, "The Chinese are concerned about the prospect of a launch... They have not said that they would block action."
Hu and President Obama met on Wednesday in London ahead of the G-20 summit. The two did not talk about North Korea openly. However, Obama stressed on the strong economic relationship between China and the United States.
US President Barack Obama expressed his concern about the prospective missile launch, while holding talks with world leaders, the official revealed.
He pointed out that any launch is provocative to the region and contrary to the U.N. Security Council resolutions.
The official added that the administration wants to see the six-party talks with North Korea continue. The U.S., South Korea, Japan, Russia and China have been in discussions with North Korea in an attempt to keep Pyongyang from developing nuclear weapons.
A Wednesday evening report by the CNN had indicated an unnamed military source as saying that North Korea had begun fueling the rocket.
However, a senior U.S. official had clarified to Fox News that despite activity at the launch pad, there was no evidence that fueling had taken place.
Last week, North Korea had warned the United Nations against taking any action for Pyongyang's launch, saying it would be considered a hostile action.
North Korea claims that it is launching a satellite. However, if a senior administration officer traveling with the president is to be believed, the technology used for satellites is also used for nuclear-tipped missiles. (ANI)
