Truck overturns in Punjab, 20 killed
Anandpur Sahib, Mar 31: In a heartrending incident, at least 20 pilgrims were killed and about 65 injured when a truck overturned on Tuesday, Mar 31 morning.
The pilgrims were travelling from the Naina Devi in Himachal Pradesh after praying at the shrine as part of Navratra festival. On returning, their truck overturned near Anandpur Sahib.
The injured were rushed to the govt hospital in Anandpur Sahib for treatment. Six of them, who were in serious condition, were taken to the Post-graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) at Chandigarh, 100 km from the accident spot, police officials said.
The pilgrims belonged to a village near Machhiwara town near Ludhiana in Punjab. Reports claim that truck driver was drunk.
