New Delhi, Mar 29: The Election Commission of India has issued notice to the Samajwadi Party (SP) chief and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, for reportedly misbehaving with a senior officer in Uttar Pradesh.

S Y Qureshi, while addressing media persons said that the commission has given special directions to its officials to monitor the media so that suo moto action could be taken against candidates who are creating nuisance.

On Mar 23, Yadav had targeted Mainpuri District Magistrate Ministhy Dileep, saying: She is a woman and that is why I am not making any comments on her. She should get her brain checked and should be aware of the fact that Mulayam is contesting from Mainpuri."

According to reports, Mulayam made the comments after his local party workers blamed Ministhy for confiscating licensed arms of people supporting the party, as they were being used to threaten rival supporters.

Mulayam however, denied the charges, saying he has always respected women, and given them proper place in the party.
