Varun leaves for Pilibhit; court arrest on Mar 28

New Delhi, Mar 28: After withdrawing the bail plea on Friday, Mar 27 in the Delhi High Court regarding the hate speech, BJP leader Varun Gandhi on Saturday, Mar 28 left for t Pilibhit and is likely to court arrest there at around 11 am. Varun is contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Pilibhit.

Varun's camp is expected to earn political mileage. Meanwhile, the leadership has sent the party's incharge of polls for Uttar Pradesh, Kalraj Mishra to Pilibhit to monitor the situation closely.

Earlier, the Allahabad High Court had rejected the bail plea of the 29-year-old BJP leader and this was cited by his lawyer as the reason for withdrawing the bail plea from the Delhi High Court.

"Keeping in view of Allahabad High Court order, we seek to withdraw the petition," senior advocate Siddharth Luthra, appearing for Gandhi told the court on Friday, Mar 28.

Meanwhile, Pilibhit was put under a tight security cover. "In the wake of Varun Gandhi's visit tomorrow tight security arrangements will be made in the district and along with the local police Provincial Armed Constabulary would also be deployed," Superintendent of Police Prakash D said on Friday, Mar 28.
