ISI's current logistical support to LeT greater than ever before: US officials

London, Mar.27 (ANI): The revamped US strategy to counter militancy in Afghanistan and Pakistan is scheduled to be announced on Friday, but according to media reports the questionable relation between Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) and banned terror outfits such as Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) can seriously dent the Obama Administration's plans.

According to a report in The Independent, US officials believe that the ISI through its 'S Wing' is offering logistical support to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) even more than it was doing previously.

US officials say that they have a perfect report about this nefarious connection based on human intelligence and electronic intercepts.

Earlier, media reports also suggested that the ISI is also involved in funding and assisting the Taliban so as to widen the insurgent's retaliation against the US led allied forces in Afghanistan.

This clearly indicates that neither the democratic government of Asif Ali Zardari nor the Army led by General Ashfaq Kayani has been able to suppress this link.

Pakistan military experts, however believe that despite the US leadership enjoys a good leadership with the General Kayani as well as ISI chief Lieutenant-General Shuja Pasha there is a 'double game being played.

"What the US is trying to do is put a lot of pressure on Pakistan, saying, you have to be categorical in your commitment to the war on terror. They have grave doubts about that commitment, as they are many forces who are still active and are inimical to US interests," former Pak General, Talat Masood said.

The ISI has long been maintaining ties with the Taliban in Afghanistan where it feels an increased Indian intervention could dwarf its presence and control, and revelations made by the US officials about the ISI supporting the LeT is a worry for the Obama Administration which on the heels of laying out a new plan to counter the militancy in Afghanistan and hoping for some positive result in the eight year long 'war on terror'.
