Guj riots case: Maya Kodnani surrenders

Gandhinagar, Mar 27: After the Gujarat High Court cancelled the anticipatory bail of BJP state minister Maya Kodnani accused in the 2002 Naroda-Paitya riot case, Kodnani surrendered before the office of Special Investigation Team (SIT).

Supreme Court had appointed SIT in Gandhinagar to probe Godhra riots cases.

Earlier in the day, Kodnani, who is the state minister for education submitted her resignation from the Narendra Modi govt.

Narendra Modi led BJP govt distanced itself from Maya Kodnani, after HC cancelled her bail. VHP leader Jaydeep Patel, one more accused in the riots case also surrendered after the court cancelled his bail request.

However, SIT officials had said that they will arrest Kodnani irrespective of whether she surrenders or not before 6pm on Friday, Mar 27.
