US keeping channels open both with Zardari and opposition parties in Pakistan
Washington, Mar.26 (ANI): The United States has said it will continue to assist the present and future democratically elected government in Pakistan in tackling issues on all fronts, including terrorism and the economic crisis clearly indicating that it would also tender support to the PML-N in case it succeeds the Zardari regime.
"We are in a good diplomatic relationship with Pakistan, we will continue to work with the government on the problems that it faces not only those of terrorism but also on institution building and on economics," US State Department spokesperson Gordon Duguid said.
Addressing a regular press briefing here, Duguid said Washington is maintaining a close vigil on developments in Pakistan, and is in regular contact with the leadership of that country.
Replying to a query as to how long the Obama administration would continue its support to Islamabad, the Daily Times qouted Duguid as saying that Washington would maintain its ties with a democratic set-up in Islamabad in the future also.
"We are right now working with a Pakistani Government. And that, you know, as the political process moves forward till such time that Pakistan has new elections, there will be another government, that we would continue to try and maintain our good relationship with," he added. (ANI)
