Sr Prema, new head of Missionaries of Charity

Kolkata, Mar 26: Sister Mary Prema is elected as the new head of Missionaries of Charity (MoC), the congregation founded by Mother Teresa in Kolkata. German-born Sr Prema is replacing Sister Nirmala Joshi who has led the congregation since 1997 as the new Superior General.

Though Sister Nirmala was re-elected for the third term, 74-year-old Sister requested to be relieved of her duties, citing her ill health and a desire to live a contemplative life in the congregation. Sister Prema's appointment will have to be ratified by the Vatican.
