Melbourne, Mar 23 (ANI): Late Brit celebrity Jade Goody's half brother, Brett Luckens, has revealed that he is devastated by her death, especially since he was not able to meet her before she passed away.

Luckens, 31, who is based in Sydney, wanted to fly around the globe from his home in Cronulla to be with Goody during her ordeal, but he was scared a five-year rift with his mother, Jackiey Budden, would make the situation even worse.

When he came to know about her illness from a friend, Luckens tried to contact Jackiey to offer support and talk to his sister, but by the time he was able to reach his biological mother, it was already too late to speak to Goody, who had by that time grown too ill to talk.

"I'm just distraught. When I discovered Jade had cancer I tried to contact her but she was already in hospital. I was praying the doctors had made a mistake and she'd be out in no time," the Daily Telegraph quoted him as saying.

"It all happened so quickly - I can't even begin to imagine what Jackiey is going through and I will do whatever I can to support her and the family," he said.

Luckens, a chef at the esteemed Summit restaurant on George St, Sydney, claims that he is also heartbroken that his son will never get to meet the Big Brother star, who died on Mother's Day without her sons Bobby, five, and Freddie, four, who were with their father.

"My heart bleeds when I look at those poor kids," he said.

"My son is five, the same age as Bobby, and for the last five years I have been looking forward to the day he meets his aunt and cousins. He knows all about his Aunty Jade I will make sure I keep her memory alive.

"I'd love nothing more for us all to have some family bonding time and hope that one day he can meet Jackiey and cousins and have the bond that Jade and I missed out on.

"One of the best nights of my life was when we'd just been reunited and I took her to an East 17 concert at the Royal Albert Hall for her 16th birthday. She was the life and soul, dancing around and beaming at everyone - and that's how I will remember her.

"I'm just devastated. When Jackiey and I initially fell out, I had already decided to emigrate to Australia so the distance between us didn't help.

"But me and Jade were cool - there was never a big problem between us and I just thought we would just come into contact again and pick up where we left off, like we usually did.

"I still can't believe she's gone and I am here if Jackiey or any of the family need me," he added. (ANI)
