Scrap Pak President's special powers: Nawaz Sharif

Lahore, Mar 19: Nawaz Sharif, the PML-N chief and former Prime Minister of Pakistan urged the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) -led government to scrap the sweeping powers of President Asif Ali Zardari and restore the Constitution of the nation to its position in Oct 1999. Military under the leadership of Prevez Musharraf took over power and altered the Constitution giving additional power to the President of the nation.

The PML-N chief who defied the house arrest and lead the 'long march' to urge the government to restore sacked judges during 2007 emergency also requested the government to look into the Supreme Court judgement that barred him and his brother Shahbaz Sharif from contesting elections. "The federal government should look into the judgment," he told a news conference in Lahore.
