Prime ministerial candidate to be chosen by consensus: Naidu
New Delhi, Mar 18 (ANI): Telugu Desam Party leader Chandrababu Naidu said on Wednesday that the decision on the Third Party's prime ministerial candidate would be taken by consensus.
Talking to the reporters here, Naidu said, "There is only one seat for prime minister's post. Many people have aspirations. Ultimately, we have to bring some consensus. I am confident people will realise this. Ultimately they will adjust on consensus candidate that will emerge."
However, Naidu refused to comment on Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati's probability to be a consensus candidate. "I cannot comment on these things at this juncture. Reason is very clear - all of us have to sit in a coalition politics then decide the candidate," he said.
Naidu, further clarified that he was not interested for the prime ministerial post.
"Never have I aspired, even in future. I am not a candidate. Twice I got an offer, I made very clear I am not an aspirant," he said.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati had reportedly revealed her ambition to hold the top post soon after the Third Front was formed.
However, on March 15, she announced that her party would not form alliance with any party and would contest the coming general elections alone.
Mayawati, who had invited the Third Front for a dinner meeting on the same day, dismissed reports of having given any ultimatum of 48 hours to the Third Front to declare her as their prime ministerial candidate. (ANI)
