Political activities gather momentum all over India
Patna/Jammu, Mar 17 (ANI): The Janata Dal (United) has termed the emergence of the Third Front as a "futile exercise".
Addressing reporters here on Monday, Janata Dal (United) chief Sharad Yadav said: "There are only two fronts opposite to each other, the NDA and the UPA, with whom larger geographical areas are attached. If there is a third force, then it is the Communists, but I consider the Third Front as a futile exercise."
He said that the main battle would be between the Congress-led coalition and the leading opposition bloc, headed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Yadav also ruled out that there were differences between his Bihar ruling party and the BJP over seat sharing.
"There are no differences over seat sharing between the NDA partners. Talks are in progress for Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand," said Yadav.
In the meantime Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) said that it would contest 14 seats in Bihar.
"As a political party in Bihar, our workers feel that we should also participate in the elections. So, we have decided that we will contest on 14 seats," said NCP general secretary Tariq Anwar.
In Jammu, People's Democratic Party (PDP) said that it would declare candidates for the upcoming polls shortly.
"We are happy that people have given us the role of an effective opposition and effectively field our candidates in these parliamentary elections. We would be effective campaigning in these polls and selection of the candidates will take place in next few days," said PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. (ANI)
