Thousands join Nawaz Sharif-led Long March

Islamabad, March 15 (ANI): Thousands of people comprising lawyers, political supporters and members of the civil society joined Sharif-left 'Long March', which has already gained wide media attention and publicity across the world, for being taken out against the Pakistan establishment.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif looked in robust mood, as he led the 'Long March' on Sunday towards Islamabad after reaching GPO Chowk here.

Earlier in the afternoon, Police tried to block the way of caravan led by Nawaz Sharif, who came out of his house in spite of the government orders of detention served to him. he police, however, retreated after a little while giving way to the caravan, reported GEO New channel. Earlier, a clash broke out at GPO Road, between enraged protesters and police which used heavy shelling to disperse the protestors.

But the Nawaz-led caravan comprising party workers and people kept marching on, breaking all the hurdles erected on their way while scuffles between police and protesters continued.

Police deployment had been increased in Model Town where barbed wires were laid to block the roads. Police resort to use of tear gas and baton charging at marchers to thwart the long march and left many people injured.

But the protestors, pushing ahead through barricades and hurdles, crossed the Kalma Chowk where heavy contingents of police were deployed to stop the march. However, the police disappeared after a while.

The number of participants kept steadily increasing during the Long March, as the march kept moving on till evening. (ANI)
