Pakistan's doing more against terrorism vital for US's revamped Afghan policy

Lahore, Mar.14 (ANI): The United States is almost ready with a new policy for Afghanistan, whose most vital element is to get Pakistan to do more in the fight against terrorism.

According to The Daily Times, the Obama administration is on the heels of announcing a fresh strategy for Afghanistan to facilitate its 'War on terror' in the region.

The new policy is expected to be announced next week.

US officials have given clear indications that Pakistan has to be made to realise that doing more to contain extremism was in its own interests as well as those of the international community.

"We're just about done. The safe haven in Pakistan must be dismantled , making sure that Afghanistan doesn't provide a capability in the long run or an environment in which Al Qaeda or the Taliban could return," Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman, Admiral Mike Mullen said.

The US President, Barack Obama is expected to give details of the new Afghan policy during a NATO conference in Europe next month. (ANI)
