Left, key regional parties launch Third Front

Tumkur, Mar 12: Nine political parties gathered near Tumkur city on Thursday, Mar 12 to launch the Third Front, an alliance it leaders say is an alternative to the Congress and the Bharathiya Janata Party (BJP).

Launching the Third Front, the Left and major regional parties came down heavily upon Congress and the BJP and said both of them had failed to address people's grievances.

"This is a historic get together of all democratic, secular and Left parties in the country to declare that we are all coming together to constitute a third force in this country," CPM General Secretary Prakash Karat said.

Karat also said: "Today we have come together because the country needs a new alternative."

The leaders of Janata Dal-Secular, Communist Party of India-Marxist, Communist Party of India, Revolutionary Socialist Party, Forward Bloc, Telugu Desam Party, AIADMK, Telangana Rashtra Samiti and the Bahujan Samaj Party claimed they can give the nation a stable government.

The biggest names of the Third Front, A B Bardhan of the CPI, Chandrababu Naidu of the TDP and JD-S leader H D Deve Gowda were in all praise for the alliance.
