Inflation falls to 7-yr low at 2.43 pc
New Delhi. Mar 12: Indian inflation continued its southward journey and slipped below 3 per cent to 2.43 per cent during the week ended Feb 28 from 3.03 pc a week earlier. This is lowest in 7 years. The WPI or Wholesale Price Index for all the commodities was marginally up at 227.7 pc.
In 2002, Jun 8 inflation was at 2.18 pc. It was lowest ever on Feb 2, 2002 at 1.13 pc. Earlier Reserve Bank of India predicted that the annual inflation will fall below 3 pc by the end of the current fiscal year on Mar 31. Some experts even predicted that India will witness deflation by mid-2009.
