Traditional balloon festival gear up for Holi

Jaipur, Mar 10 (ANI): Jaipur is famous for 'Gulal Gota', made by melting lacquer into a fine membrane balloon.

Only a few craftsmen can make 'Gulal Gota', a tender colour bomb thrown at unsuspecting passerby or a willing player during the festival.

This mushroom-top look alike and probably one of the most deceptive weapons used by frolickers during Holi, 'Gulal Gota' tells a popular tale of the erstwhile royalty from Rajasthan.

"Royal families used to play using these balloons. The kings and the princes used to sit on elephants and throw these balloons at the queens and princesses. The colour inside the balloon spreads all over," said Parvez Mohammad, a craftsman.

Residents say these balloons are as light as paper and are filled with Gulal, and don't cause any harm to eyes, nose or ears.

"'Gulal Gota' do not harm and do not cause any allergy," said Sharam Kumar, a resident. By Lokendra Singh (ANI)
