Will bring back Gandhi's memorabilia: Soni

New Delhi, Mar 5: Ambika Soni, the Union Culture Minister said that the Manmohan Singh the Prime Minister of India has urged to take all possible measures to get back Mahatma Gandhi's personal belongings which are up for auction in New York.

"We will enter the auction if required as a last resort" to bring back the items to the country, she said. Minister's statement has raised fresh hopes that the Indian government may just be able to prevent Bapu's belongings from going under the hammer.

The personal belongings include Gandhi's metal-rimmed glassed, pocket watch, a pair of sandals and a plate and bowl. Earlier the American auctioneer James Otis set condition that the Indian government should shift priorities from military spending to health care, especially for the poor to stop the auction.
